Trying to find a sitter around here is like going a snipe hunt. You know they are "supposed" to be out there but all you catch are glimpses here & there and hear all the stories about the "golden one" that everyone else has found...but you can't bag one yourself.
UNTIL someone from MOMS Club sent out a contact at the local university that distributes babysitting requests to ED students. I figured, hey, what the heck? So off I sent my email "ad"... and no kidding, within SIX HOURS I had EXACTLY THIRTY -- yes, 3-0 -- responses. I even got nibbles from two guys (which the boys asked for specifically).
After a LOT of consideration, I narrowed it down to 4.... then 3... then based on the boys' feedback, 2.... and then after they looked at their Facebook pictures, they leaned toward one of them. She was one of my top 2 (basically because they were informative, yet also personable in their notes back & said they laughed about my "ad") so I went ahead & booked her. I figure the biggest thing my kids are used to is someone who can (try) to have a sense of humor about their antics, so I'm hoping this works out -- if not, hell, I've got a load of folks to test out LOL!!
The funniest thing? My (prepubescent - Lord help me when puberty hits!) boys picked the girl from a picture... so thankfully the CHEERLEADER who applied wasn't available for my first date LOL! (Although I just looked up the cheerleader's Facebook pic & she has struck a gangsta rap pose -- which goes to prove the news reports that employers ARE looking at Facebook & MySpace pages for these kids so they need to be thinking like an old fuddy-duddy when making their pages LOL!).
Everyone keep your fingers crossed for us that this works out -- I DETEST breaking in new sitters!!
