LEARNING... VIA THE WEST WING

I am an avowed Sorkinaholic. I fall in love with Aaron Sorkin shows. The big excitement in our house lately? They are releasing "Sports Night" on DVD (Christmas gift alert, folks!). Anyway, during my vertigo sojourn on the couch, I ran across a TV station showing reruns of "The West Wing" and it prompted me to get out my DVDs (Season 6) and finish watching out that season.
Anyway, I think that The Mouth is hooked. He got excited when he realized that I actually OWNED the DVDs and that I wasn't simply borrowing them from the library. I should start him from Season 1, but right now, with the historic election taking place in our OWN reality, the parallels are just too rich. Old man (Alan Alda as Arnold Vinnick, the Republican) versus Brown Man (Jimmy Smits, as Matthew Santos the Latin Democratic Candidate).... well, the rest of the comparison is just too obvious. Season 6, which The Mouth watched with me (while Sullen P peeked up from behind his book) went through the nominating conventions. Now The Mouth wants to know when we're going to watch Season 7! If only I could convince Bebe that "West Wing" is as exciting as "Little Einsteins"....
Maybe if I can get Patrick to watch enough Sorkin stuff he'll stop terrorizing me by telling me that he wants McCain/Palin to win. (He must be surrounded by Republican offspring in his class -- such a follower!) Maybe instead of our youth brainwashing each other with partisanship rhetoric in schools, the parties could cough up some of the bucks they keep using to sue each other in this state to actually support REAL education in our schools!!
Ah, the dreams of the idealistic Democrat....
