For the first Den Meeting, I had the kids knock off a few of their electives -- we combined "Make a Snack for your Den" and "Bake Cookies With An Adult". Here's the results!

The Den will have a "denner" this year -- one of the Cubs will help out at the meetings, along with our new Den Chief, Nathan. All the kids had their names put into a bowl & it just so happened that Patrick's name was drawn -- so here he is getting his Denner cords on! I, of course, forgot to have the kid wear his Class A uniform to the Pack Meeting so he didn't get to show them off... and next month the designation will move to the next randomly picked Denner!
We, of course, being the (overzealous) Cub Scout family, held a Den Meeting during the onset of Hurricane Ike's rampage through our area. Poor Hannah hid under the table, but I'm not sure if it was because of the winds, or because the kids were working on whittling! Yes, this is the year they get knives. (Ugh. At least Daddy has them well "hidden".) First they had to learn to sharpen their tool by practicing on a popsicle stick, then they had to whittle a bar of soap. Next they'll whittle a paint stirrer into a totem pole shape. The winds got so bad, and so much was flying around (none of the Cubs, thank goodness!) that they moved the patio table into the garage to finish off the meeting! Thankfully we didn't need any electric LOL!
