Saturday after our soccer game (thus the reason for the orange socks & cleats LOL!) we drove over to one of the area metroparks to participate in our across-the-street neighbor's Eagle Scout project. There are three HUGE oak trees that are close to 600 years old in this park (they call them The Three Sisters) and the area was being choked out by honeysuckle. They were also hoping to find some acorns from the trees or saplings since they think there might be some superior genetic strain from these trees since they've hung in there so long. Thus, the request of help from the boys. Nothing like having people lower to the ground to dig around! Unfortunately, the boys were allowed to start hacking at the honeysuckle, so Patrick didn't want to stop using "big boy tools", and Kevin peetered out, so by time I got Kevin to go down & dig around in the brush looking for acorns, he was about to pass out. He came up the trail with an empty acorn bucket & said he only found caps, so apparently the squirrels had beat him to it :(. Ryan had a great time, but he was REALLY upset he couldn't get down into the honeysuckle with the big boys (THAT would have been a disaster!) so while I went down the hillside to take some pictures, Peggy took him for a little hike. He was so funny! Anyway, here's some pictures of the activities -- we only were able to help out for about 1-1/2 hours since Kevin was ready to crash & Ryan was waaayyyy past his naptime, but Patrick was really mad he had to leave & kept telling me we could just drop Kevin & Ryan off at home with (sick) Daddy & then we could go back!
It will be great to see Phillip get his Eagle Scout & know that our little Cubs had an itty-bitty part in helping out... and now I've seen what our future holds (eeks!).
