This edition of the oft-delayed O-Ville blog is coming to you live from Paradise Island, The Bahamas!
Yes, Harry & I decided one week ago (!) to take off for 6 nights by OURSELVES (gasp!) and head to the Bahamas (cheapest & direct flights LOL) and we're using hotel points, so here we are! We're by the Atlantis property so we have stepchild access to all of their amenities (pools, rides, can charge in their restaurants, etc...) so that has been really great!
We arrived Sunday and spent a few hours just walking around parts of the Atlantis property. It's been a while since we were here in the Bahamas, so I had forgotten that there is a bit of a "Bahama time" issue. As we waited FOREVER for a sandwich to be made at a deli counter (Murray's Deli), I finally got frustrated and told Harry, "I expect this in JAMAICA, but I didn't realize there would be the same issue in the Bahamas!" LOL! Guess I need to learn to relax a bit... We have noticed that there don't seem to be too many happy-looking workers so far on the island...???
Sunday night we were in bed by 10 pm, and it was amazing. We had the bed to ourselves (sans dog)... and no one woke us up screaming to be held & rocked at 1 am & 6 am!! I actually slept until 7:30 am the next morning! I have to admit to hearing someone walking either in the hallway outside or above us and thinking, "Uh oh, one of them is coming to our room!" but then I remembered that the boys weren't with us so it was just someone else's noise!
Seems we're here as they are getting over a cold snap so I think today is supposed to be sunny & in the 80's. Humidity is high... and it really isn't that cold here but it was incredibly windy on the beach yesterday!
Monday we went over to Atlantis and hung out on a beach, and then after a few hours (the majority of them being spent shaded so we didn't get burnt on the first day!) we walked around and saw all the lazy rivers and water slides on the Atlantis property. We also figured out where the least family-populated areas were so we weren't surrounded by screaming kids since we left that in O-Ville.... >wink<
It was wild on the beach, though... The seagulls are VERY blase about the humans, so there would be times we'd look up and there would be a seagull just floating in the wind right above us -- like literally above us to where we could have just reached up & touched it! We kept trying to get pictures of it but of course the camera wasn't cooperating when we needed it to... We had gotten lunch (a cheeseburger & a conch burger) and it had some fries with it, so we did get some pictures of them swarming in the air trying to get some fry bits! However, the people next to us were not quite as humored by it as we were, since the gal got pooped on. We decided that what goes around, comes around, because she had been feeding them potato chips and they had all been hanging over top of OUR chairs....
Last night we went to Carmine's and it was really good. HUGE portions so it would have been better to be with a group, but now we have LOTS of leftovers in our room fridge! The bummer I found out last night was that the Starbucks here does NOT take Starbucks cards -- they said they aren't affiliated with the US. No doubt, since a tall decaf cost me $2.40!!!
Also hit the liquor store and picked up a jug of Bacardi brand "Bahama Mama". I'll have to look to see if it can be found in the States, because the stuff is actually REALLY GOOD! And NO... the jug is not empty... YET!! We're planning to fill up empty water bottles to take it over to the beach LOL!!
