SUGAR, SUGAR, EVERYWHERE... but still some to bake with!

As you can tell from the title, yesterday's Cub Scout meeting was a bit of a disaster. H said he was sure that the other parents admired my restraint. I personally think that I deserve a medal for not smacking my child upside the back of his head... Sigh...

Anyway, this month's theme is "Cub Cafe", and H wanted to do some cooking. So I had this flashback of when my Mom was MY scout leader and we did "No Bake Cookies". Fast forward to me suggesting it to H (first big mistake - I should NEVER try to emulate my overachiever mother!). I set stuff out, had it ready to go... butter, milk, oatmeal, sugar, cocoa, vanilla, peanut butter, etc... Big stock pot on the stovetop to use... and since K had been helping me measure out the sugar that morning, I asked him if he wanted to be the one to put it into the pot, since he was about having a CONNIPTION wanting to do something. Well, our little show-off decided he needed to hold the Pyrex huge cup waaayyyy up above his head to shower the sugar into the pot....

...AND HE MISSED.

About 3/4 cup worth went ALL OVER THE STOVETOP. Down into burners... under the cooktop... into the vent trap... EVERYWHERE.

Like I said - I deserve a medal for not reflexively smacking him upside the back of his head.

I have spent two days now scrubbing down, taking apart, dishwashing, scrubbing some more, wiping, wiping, wiping the stovetop down.

~~

The cookies turned out okay. One little boy started crying because "that's not what cookies should look like" (they were no bake drop cookies) and refused to eat them, and another took a bite and immediately spit it out LOL. The other 6 seemed to enjoy them LOL!!

I would have taken pictures but I was too busy stirring the boiling sugar and then trying to clean up the kitchen.

LOL! It seems like somedays all I do is clean up after Bryce, and there's just one of him. I think you deserve a medal for even THINKING about having that many kids over at one time. :)
