FRIENDS AS FAMILY

It's always amazed how some of my friends are as dear to me as my family -- I mean, isn't blood "supposed" to be thicker than water? I guess I've just been blessed with meeting people that feel like blood to me. One of my most treasured wedding pictures is one taken with my Mom, sister and Robin (Robin actually looks more like the member of the family than I do LOL!) -- we all have our arms slung around each other & the photographer caught us all cracking up. Then there is my friend, Julie, whom I only really "knew" in person for a short while as a child in Wisconsin - but we always seem to reconnect and just pick up from wherever we are, even though they only thing we really have in "common" are 3 boys and traveling husbands -- there's just always been a "connection". And of course, there is Sheila.

Well, I've got mixed feelings about this, because on one hand I am so glad my kids have this in their lives... but it also makes me sooo sad that their connection is going to be so spotty like mine is with Julie... What? Well, keep reading & I'll explain...

The other day the boys came home with their classwork from the day that the school counselor comes in each week. The "lesson" for the week was "Things That Bug Me". Well, I was asking K what his one was since I couldn't quite figure out the phoenetical wording on it.

Thing That Bugs K:
"When my cousin his name is Robbie won't stop talking to me."

M: K, who's your cousin?
K: Robbie!
M: Bud, you realize that your cousin's names are Joey & Maria, right?
K: Yeah, but Robbie is also our cousin.

So for those wondering -- Robbie is actually Cameron & Garrett's cousin. K just thinks that he is HIS cousin, too, since he considers C & G to be his family. Not having ANY "family" close just BITES for my kids.
