The last couple of days there's been a gang of kids out front playing street hockey. It's been pretty hysterical to watch... they have been using Hannah's second-hand tennis balls, real hockey sticks, Little Tikes hockey sticks, and Fisher Price baseball bats. The older kids have been on in-line skates; others are running around in tennies. Like I said -- just a RIOT to watch! They've probably all spent about 10 hours just in the last two days out front in the sun & heat, playing street hockey.
I hope my kids will remember this summer, as it really is special to have all those kids around, especially for them to be willing to put up with two five year olds! There really is a great group of kids in this area... not necessarily the smartest bunch, but really good kids. I mention potential stupidity because the kids were all telling me that yesterday one of the other kids took two bottles of water out of the garage fridge to put in a bowl for Hannah. Um, HELLOOOO - just send the dog INSIDE or USE THE HOSE!!! LOL!!
I also wish my kids could see that every once in a while I'm not the "mean Mommy" -- that I do have spots of being the "cool Mommy". I grilled hot-dogs and gave 8 kids an (impromptu) lunch (dogs, veggies & chips) on Tuesday, and Wednesday we did ice cream breaks where I'd bring out Push-Ups or popsicles. Not to mention the case of water a day that was being emptied out of the garage fridge LOL!! Ah, but the sad part is that my kids don't realize that's being a "cool Mommy". They just assume that's the way it is... even though the don't know if any of the other Mommy's do stuff like that. Nope, they just figure that's my "job". (Little twerps!)
I think the best was tonight at dinner when P turned to me and said, "Could you give our friend the green car?"
Thinking he meant one of his Hot Wheel cars, I told him since it was his car it was his decision if he wanted to give it away.
He then corrected me by saying, "NO - I meant YOUR green car. She's only 14 but when she turns 16 her parents aren't going to let her buy a car, so I figured you could give her your green one."
Generous little bugger, ain't he???
